Administration & Governance

Faculty Council
The responsibility for academic policy rests with the Faculty Council. It is composed of the president, vice-president and provost, the dean, the vice dean, the associate and assistant deans, the chief administrative officer, professors emeritae/i, all full-time teaching staff, the registrar, and representatives of the Council of Athletics and Recreation (CAR), the student body, the administrative staff, and alumni/ae.

Committees of Council
The following standing committees report to the Faculty Council:

Executive Committee
The Executive Committee is composed of the dean, vice dean(s), associate dean(s), assistant dean(s), chief administrative officer, registrar, chair and vice-chair of Faculty Council, and the presidents of the KPEUA and KPEGS. The purpose of this committee is to monitor the functioning of the Council and its committees, as well as to serve as the striking committee that determines the memberships of the rest of the standing committees of Council.

Admissions Committee
The Admissions Committee assesses the qualifications of applicants seeking admission to the Faculty and advises on the admission of qualified applicants to the undergraduate program on behalf of Council. It is composed of the dean, vice dean, associate dean undergraduate education, at least two teaching staff, one administrative staff member, the registrar, the Director EDI, at least one student and one alumni/ae representative.

Curriculum Committee
The Curriculum Committee is responsible for the curriculum of the undergraduate program. It recommends the addition/ revision/deletion of courses approves course outlines and calendar materials. It is composed of the dean, vice dean, associate dean  undergraduate education, at least four members of the teaching staff, the registrar, the Director EDI, as well as at least one undergraduate student and one alumni/ae representative.

Appeals Committee
The Faculty administers academic appeals of prior rulings by appointing an Appeals Committee for each specific case. Each committee will consist of at least two of the three teaching member representatives as well as one KPEUA representative or designate. None of the members shall have any prior involvement with the case(s) to be heard. The chair of each appeals committee will be one of teaching staff members and will be entitled to vote.

Research Committee
The Research Committee is responsible for advising the Council on matters relating to research in the Faculty. In accordance with University policies, it reviews and recommends to Council, procedures regulating the conduct of research, including those regarding the conduct of research in compliance with regulatory and statutory authorities. The Committee also promotes, supports, and encourages the research community at the Faculty to apply for research funding. It is composed of the dean, the associate dean research, associate dean graduate education, at least three teaching staff members, one graduate student representative, one undergraduate student representative, representatives from Faculty research groups, and one leader of the Faculty’s Extra-Departmental Units.
